Below are all people who are pertinent to this case. I have compiled as much information about each of them as I could find, but note that for some surviving victims I have chosen to exclude certain things in order to maintain their privacy.

Name: Meredith Murray

Aliases: Meredith Pines, Mary Ann Steiner, “Pallas,” and Paula Storch

Cult status: Founder and Matriarch

Biography

Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Bill and Cerise Pines. Her mother abandoned the family sometime in her childhood. Murray was reportedly a strange and dreamy child, but highly charismatic, and she made many friends. Teachers noted an inability to pay attention when the subject did not interest her. According to her father, she had an imaginary friend named “Enna” that she was devoted to. She participated heavily in the Girl Scouts until eighth grade, when she was kicked from her troop for something that happened on a retreat between her and another girl. There are no records available regarding what that incident was.

Sometime during high school, she had a near death experience and began practicing Wicca. Her and a few friends founded a coven.

Relationships

Married Matthew Murray in 1999. Remarried in 2005 after he died of a pulmonary embolism, but kept the last name Murray, not sure why. She divorced her second husband after just a year and married Brandon Miller, an insurance salesman, six weeks after that. They divorced after 4 years together, stayed separated for a year, then remarried and stayed married for another 10 years. Then divorced again, this time for good.

During the time that Summerland was active, Murray had sexual and romantic relationships with both Charles Broadbent and Victor Stone, and more sexual relationships with members are hinted at in her diary, but those are kept anonymous with the use of code names. Some of these names can be puzzled out, as we see in my comprehensive timeline, but things get a little muddled when we move into “astral” relationship territory.

Notable: Layla did not fully commit to the cult until late 2023, so before that she was giving me and some other family members a bit of information.

Aliases: Murray refers to him in her personal journal as JoJo, JJ, or Ganymede

Notable: Killed Charles Broadbent in order to escape with Alice Buchanan. AFAIK he is not being charged at this time. Murray’s personal plaything. According to Alice in her testimony, Murray manipulated him the worst out of everyone.

Notable: Alice is the one who did all of the tattoos for the members. It’s unclear if this was against her will or not.

Notable: Murray seemed to actively dislike Theo, as evidenced by pages of her journal, in which she calls him “diseased,” “mouthy,” and other unflattering things – possibly because he stood up to her so often, as described by Alice, Jonas, Caitlin, and Victor.
